Each one-session class includes hands-on instruction and a full meal, as well as a walk to the Fortune Cookie Factory and the Asian grocery store, to learn about the unique ingredients needed to prepare the dishes at home. Triple Happiness: Asian Fusion Appetizers, Peking Duck & Healthy Stir Fry

Three cooking classes for the price of one! Students in this hands-on class will learn to make to mix Eastern and Western ingredients and techniques to make Asian Fusion Appetizers. Plus, students will make Chef Joseph Poon's famous Peking Duck, along with pancakes for wrapping the delicacy and the scallion flower used for garnishing. Plus, students will learn how to make several healthy stir fry dishes - the fastest and healthiest way to cook. Includes trip to Asian market to discuss ingredients and the Chinese fortune cookie factory, as well as a full meal with beer and wine.

And students learn to wrap a sushi roll, use a sushi knife, cook Japanese rice, prepare Japanese hot sauces and more. Two classes for the price of one! Students will learn about the Asian custom of purchasing live fish and shellfish. Chef Poon takes students to the Asian grocery store to purchase live fish, scallops, crab, shrimp and lobster and ingredients needed to make healthy, delicious fresh seafood dishes. Plus students in this hands-on class will learn to make 3 kinds of wontons (American, Shang Hai and Hong Kong), 6 types of dumplings (Shark's Fin, Vegetarian Tofu and American Pork & Shrimp, Peking, Tinjin Cabbage, Asian Chive ) as well as Shi Mai and Quail Egg Shi Mai.

The class culminates in a full meal including Steamed Fresh Striped Bass with Ginger and Scallions, Crispy Tilapia in Spicy Sauce, Clams and Mussels in Black Bean Sauce, Lobster in Moonshine Sauce, Seafood Fried Rice and Five Spicy Calamari. Evening classes include beer and wine.

Two classes for the price of one! Students will learn to prepare fresh ginger chicken stock, how to bone a chicken with a pairing knife in three minutes and prepare several dishes from one chicken. Plus, students will learn the fastest and healthiest way to cook -- stir fry. They will learn how to make several dishes. Then, Chef Joe Poon will lead a shopping expedition in an Asian Grocery Store, where students will learn about purchasing the ingredients they need to make the dishes at home.  The class culminates in a full meal. Evening classes include beer and wine.

These fun classes are for children with an adult. Chef Poon will have the students laughing and smiling while they learn to make dim sum. Each student will get the ingredients and different wrappers to make his/her own dim sum. Students will learn how to wrap three different types of wontons (American, Shanghai and Hong Kong ) and to make shi mai, quail egg shi mai and a variety of dumplings. Include hands-on dim sum making. Dim sum is Cantonese for “heart’s delight” and includes a variety of small, mouth-watering dishes, which can be served any time of the day and are standard fare in teahouses. After learning to make dim sum, the students can sit and savor their creations. Then, Chef Poon takes the group to a Fortune Cookie Factory for a look and taste!

Two classes for the price of one! Students learn to make noodle and stir fry dishes. Classes visit either an amazing noodle factory in Chinatown and taste fresh hand-pulled noodles or an Asian grocery store, where Chef Joseph Poon will show students how to purchase the ingredients needed to make dishes and amaze students with facts about the secrets of Asian fruits, vegetables, herbs, and, of course, noodles.

Students will learn to stir fry a dish in 5 seconds using olive oil, Dijon mustard and oyster sauce. Students will also make Stir Fried Mango Chicken (in one minute), Coconut Jumbo Shrimp with Fresh Garden Vegetables, Stir Fried Tofu with Fresh Garden Vegetables in Brown Sauce and Fried Rice. The class culminates in a full meal.

During this hands-on class, students will learn to make their own beautiful vegetable flower bouquet and assorted animals. Then Chef will take students to the Asian Grocery Store to learn about Asian herbs and vegetables, including fresh water chestnuts, winter melon, green daikon, tender green Chinese broccoli, Chinese celery, fancy lotus root, bitter melon and more. Plus, students learn to wrap a sushi roll, use a sushi knife, cook Japanese rice, prepare Japanese hot sauces and more.

Healthy Stir Fry

Students will learn the fastest and healthiest way to cook -- stir fry. They will learn to make a stir fry dish in 5 seconds using olive oil, Dijon mustard and oyster sauce. East meets west in the special Asian Appetizer class. Students will learn to mix Eastern and Western ingredients and techniques. Students will learn to make Deep Fried Spinach with Five Spicy Asiago; Spinach Nachos with Banana Pepper Parmesan Cheese in Spicy Salad with Mustard Seed Duck Sauce; Satay Grilled King Salmon Belly and Chicken Skewered in Bourbon Glaze; Coconut Shrimp with Szechuan Garlic Sauce, Japanese Eggplant with Tangy Chili Garlic in Pita Bread and Five Spicy Crispy Calamari. Includes visit to Asian Grocery Store.

 

Students receive a full meal including Hong Kong Wonton Soup and Five Spicy Calamari Salad. Appetizers: Coconut Shrimp, Satay Chicken, Satay Chinese BBQ Pork, Satay Salmon, Peking Duck Taco, Entrée: Grilled Szechuan Garlic Salmon. And for dessert, ½ mango sorbet with coulis, almond cookie and fresh fruit with Red Tea. Red and white wine served with dinner.

The Secret of Making Peking Duck

Students will learn how to make Chef Joseph Poon's famous Peking Duck, along with pancakes for wrapping the delicacy, and the scallion flower used for garnishing. The class includes a trip to the Asian Grocery Store and a Peking Duck house.

 

Students receive a full meal including Peking Duck Salad, Appetizers: Peking Duck Foie Gras with Cilantro, Scallion Bread in Tangy, Chili Soy Sauce, Peking Duck Polenta and Peking Duck Sushi. Entrées: Roast Duck with Lemon Pepper Linguini and Asian Fusion Rice followed by Ginger Carrot Cake with Fresh Fruit and Green Tea. Students in this hands-on class will learn to turn one lobster into 5 dishes, including dessert! Learn to make lobster salad, a lobster appetizer, lobster with fresh green vegetables, lobster with linguini and lobster mango dessert. Then sit down to an incredible four-course lobster banquet. Followed by a trip to the Asian Grocery store to learn about purchasing live lobster and the additional ingredients needed to prepare a lobster feast at home.

Noodle Making

Learn about the secret art of Chinese noodle-making. Students in morning classes will visit two amazing noodle factories in Chinatown and taste fresh hand-pulled noodles. It's the first time this ancient Chinese culinary art is being demonstrated to outsiders in Philadelphia Chinatown Then Chef Poon will teach students how to make Needle Noodles.

 

Students will receive a full lunch or dinner of the noodle dishes they learn to prepare finished off with Low-Fat Toasted Sesame Seed Oreo Cookie Cheesecake with Fresh Fruit and Chocolate Mango Coulis. Dinner accompanied by Qingdao beer.

 

The class includes a trip to an Asian grocery store, where Chef Joseph Poon will show students how to purchase the ingredients needed to make the dishes and amaze students with facts about the secrets of Asian fruits, vegetables, herbs, and, of course, noodles. Note, only students in morning classes will visit noodle factories.

Students in this hands-on class will learn to make 3 kinds of wontons (American, Shang Hai and Hong Kong), 6 types of dumplings (Shark's Fin, Vegetarian Tofu and American Pork & Shrimp, Peking, Tinjin Cabbage, Asian Chive ) as well as Shi Mai and Quail Egg Shi Mai.

 

Day-time students will receive a full lunch including Wonton Soup, Red Caper Spring Mixed Salad with Sweet Garlic in Ginger Sesame Dressing, Assorted Dim Sum Sampler, Ginger Carrot Cake in Mango Coulis with Green Tea Ice Cream. Evening students will receive a full dinner including Wild Phillips' Kennett Square Mushroom Consommé, Spring Mix Salad, Dim Sum Sampler, Black Sesame Seed Oreo Cookie Cheesecake with Strawberry Coulis. Paired with matching wine.

 

The trip to the Asian Grocery Store will focus on how to purchase Asian cooking herbs, shark's fin ($269.95 per lb.), Abalone ($269.95 per lb.), Peking duck and Pad Thai sauce, fresh fish and 100 different kinds of Asian anchovy. Master Chef Joe Poon will amaze students with facts about the secrets of Asian vegetables, including which are best for preventing heart disease and arthritis.    


Chicken:  Make 7 dishes from 1 chicken!

For dinner, students will receive Hong Kong Wonton Soup with Ginger Chicken Consommé, Bourbon Chicken Salad, Five Spice Chicken Wings, General Joe's Chicken in Tangy Chili Garlic Sauce, Lemon Sesame Chicken, Honey Soy Chicken Drumsticks with Asian Fusion Rice and vegetables, Cappuccino Truffle Ice Cream with Jasmine Green Tea. Dinner will include white chardonnay.

Students will receive a full lunch or dinner including Wild Mushroom Tofu Miso Soup, Wasabi Bean Spring Mixed Salad, Sushi Sampler including Soft Shell Crab Japanese Hot Sauce Sushi, Tempura Sushi and Peking Duck Sushi. Japanese Green Tea Ice Cream with Mango Coulis and Fresh Grilled Cinnamon Butter Banana will be served for dessert. Dinner will include Japanese sake.
